30 Nov Websites need good SEO to clean up over Christmas
With Christmas fast approaching and the busiest shopping day of the festive season for online retailers soon to be upon them, the importance of SEO for eCommerce websites should never be more apparent.
According to Evan LaPointe of Search Engine Land the significance of thorough Search Engine Optimisation strategies for eCommerce companies will be shown by comparative sales figures over the Christmas shopping period.
LaPointe explained to businesses that online firms failing to embrace good SEO techniques risk being left behind by their SEO-friendly eCommerce competitors.
He went on to advise IT department heads to use the high turnover Christmas shopping period to highlight the effectiveness of a successful SEO campaign.
“Show them the search volume they had no exposure to, but have a perfect product or service offering to satisfy. Show them the lift your competitors saw in traffic and sales,” he said.
According to IMRG (Interactive Media in Retail Group) websites should expect the biggest online shopping day of 2010, known as Mega Monday, to occur on Monday 6th December.
Figures from Retail Decisions (ReD) suggest that on that date hourly online retail sales between 12:00 and 13:00 will peak at £23.2m. IMRG suggest that on 5th and 6th December a total of more than £500 million will be spent by British consumers.
Head of IT at BORN, Mike Page said, “If shoppers choose to stay at home and spend their money over the internet this Christmas, online retailers who have used SEO wisely in the festive season run-up will find themselves high in the rankings and hopefully able to take full advantage of the bumper selling opportunities available to them.”
